Position Hiring: Elder
Description of Position/Benefits/Church: Salem Church of Christ - Children's Ministry Director Salem Church of Christ is seeking someone passionate about children growing in their relationship with Jesus! This position is not just about Bible facts and memory verses (but those are good too). We need someone whose life, words, and heart will show these kids how big, loving, and strong our God really is! Maybe this person is you? This is where we are: We are a neighborhood family church in Salem, VA. We run around 125 members and have 10-15 preschool to elementary kids most Sundays. Our church has been here over a hundred years and we want to be here for another hundred years. As such, we are working to be a church that matters in this community. We have a healthy Adult Ministry and Youth Ministry. But we believe if we’re going to see our church grow and impact the community around us, we need someone dedicated to overseeing the needs of our youngest members and their families. Are you this person? The purpose of this position is to help lead and encourage the spiritual formation for children from birth through fifth grade. But the reality is, we are working to build an outward, impactful identity in our community. So, you would be helping to love young parents and caregivers as well. We believe this ministry is deeply relationship driven. Are you good at building healthy relationships with a variety of people and situations? You would likely spend time outside the church, meeting and building relationships in places like local elementary schools. You would need to have one eye on the existing ministry, and the other eye on where your vision wants to take the ministry in the future. SOME NITTY GRITTY PIECES: This is a full-time position working under the day-to-day guidance of the Lead Minister. However, all staff positions in the church report ultimately to the church eldership. A healthy, growing relationship with God is a must. You will also need the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other staff. As the face of this ministry and a representative of the church, you would need to interact confidently and joyfully as you build up the volunteer base of the ministry. We are a non-denominational church with Restoration Movement roots. You would need to be committed to supporting the theology and the outward vision in place for moving the Salem Church of Christ forward in kingdom service. This is a salaried position with a salary range of 34-36k based on your education and background. THINGS YOU MIGHT BE DOING DURING THE WEEK: 1. Oversee and evaluate current curriculum, and work with other team members to develop and implement any necessary changes. 2. Teach and promote a saving relationship with Jesus Christ as indicated throughout Scripture. 3. Effectively recruit teachers and assistants as needed for each age group. 4. Maintain effective communication with parents, volunteers and staff, both verbally and in writing. 5. Work with the Youth Minister and other staff to lead/assist in church and community events. 6. Help to organize the children's budget and use it with integrity and good stewardship. 7. Oversee organizing childcare for church related events requiring childcare. 8. Research and implement any additional necessary children’s ministry policies or best practices to create a safe, loving environment. 9. Attend weekly staff meetings and occasional leadership meetings. 10. Must be willing to have a background check done. This summary is not comprehensive, but it gives you a taste of what the church and the position are about. We can’t have someone to simply maintain a ministry. Rather, we need someone with a passion for growing and building something with eternal importance. Are you that person? Apply to work with us! INSTRUCTIONS: Send an email with your interest and an electronic copy of your resume to one of our Elders, David Workman, at vtfandavid@hotmail.com.
