Description of Position/Benefits/Church: Christ’s Church is located in Pitt County, NC. The church is currently averaging about 250 in attendance.

This is a full-time position. Our Preaching Pastor is retiring at the end of 2025. Our elders would like to have someone join our staff in 2025 and serve alongside him with the intent of becoming the lead pastor when he retires.

Position Summary

The Senior/Preaching Pastor’s primary responsibility is to proclaim the Word of God through preaching and teaching and to lead in developing the vision and strategic planning of the church. He will have the responsibility of overseeing the staff and ministries within the church.  He will also serve on the eldership of the church, but must abstain from voting on issues regarding his personal compensations.

Desired Traits and Qualities of Candidates

A candidate must be a committed Christian, living a life above reproach, in accordance with the Word of God. He must agree with and teach the doctrinal positions of the Christ’s Church and Restoration Movement churches. A candidate must be able to communicate effectively within the scope of his ministry.  He should be a flexible, teachable, and willing servant of God committed to work with the ministry staff and leaders to achieve the mission of the church.

General Responsibilities

Ministry:

  • Primary purpose is to preach the word of God in a manner as to make messages applicable to the congregation while maintaining doctrinal truths of the Christian Church/Churches of Christ.
  • Teaching the word of God including leading study groups, one-on-one discipling, and assisting in development of special studies and programs aligned with the vision/mission of the church.
  • Developing relationships with families of the church as well a being available for counseling/meeting with people.
  • Participation in all scheduled church activities.

Administrative:

  • Serving on the board of elders and carrying out the policies established by the eldership of the church.
  • Overall responsibility of overseeing the staff and ensuring a supportive, effective, and cohesive team environment. This includes, but is not limited to, support/mentorship of staff, annual performance evaluations, and the facilitation of training/professional development.
  • Overseeing the church office and day-to-day function of the church (e.g., communications, budget, facility schedule, etc.).

Other:

  • Work with the elders and staff in developing strategic goals for the church and assuming the lead in communicating these goals and plans to the congregation.
  • Remain open and flexible to other responsibilities that may be identified as the church and adult programs grow and expand.

Candidate Qualifications

  • A candidate must be a committed Christian man, living a life above reproach, in accordance with the Word of God. He must agree with and teach the doctrinal positions of Christ’s Church and the Restoration Movement churches.
  • Earned Bible/theological degree from accredited institute aligned with the Restoration Church is preferred. Candidates with remaining credits toward graduation may be considered provided there is sufficient evidence of experience in ministry leadership.
  • Experience in preaching/teaching in corporate worship settings. This includes the planning and delivery of sermons.
  • Administrative/supervisory experience in ministry including group leadership, general budgetary knowledge, and various organizational skills (e.g., communications, scheduling, etc.).

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
  • Three weeks annual paid vacation (or equivalent to 160 hours) as well as paid holiday leave depending on years of experience. In addition, 7 sick/personal leave days (or equivalent to 56 hours)
  • Annual funding for professional development.
  • One month paid sabbatical leave every seven years designated for professional and spiritual growth.

Christ’s Church is located in Winterville (Greenville), NC.  We are a Restoration Movement church understanding that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, and it is the roadmap for our vision and mission.

Our leadership begins with Jesus, the head of the church (Colossians 1:18).  The local church is led by an appointed and ordained eldership (1 Timothy 3:1-7).  In turn, the eldership appoints/hires paid staff and oversee the leadership of the various ministry teams.  Together, we all work to connect people to Christ and the community.

While we are conservative doctrinally, we try to be contemporary in practice. We strive to meet people where they are and present our message of truth in a compelling and engaging way.
