MACU Ranked #1 Online University in North Carolina

Elizabeth City, NC – The successful implementation and completion of the Global Classroom Campaign made online education a reality. Mid-Atlantic Christian University received notification on April 15, 2013, from The Southern Association of College and Schools - Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), that several of its degree programs were approved for one hundred percent online delivery.  In our third year of offering online education MACU is honored to receive this ranking. Degrees offered online from the School of Professional Studies include a B.S. in Christian Ministry, B.S. in Family Studies, B.S. in Organizational Leadership, and an A.A. in Biblical Studies.  The university's School of Undergraduate Studies offers the B.S. in Business Administration, A.A. in Biblical Studies, B.S. in Biblical Studies, and the Certificate in Family Life Education.

MACU ranked in the Top 5 for all Education Departments to Become a Teacher

Elizabeth City, NC – May 1, 2016.  Tom Charlet, editor of a website called ToBecomeATeacher.org recently released the rankings of the top schools in North Carolina that offer educational degrees for students looking to become teachers in North Carolina. MACU was selected as one of the top five programs in the state. President D. Clay Perkins, Ph.D., remarked, “I am extremely proud of the excellence in all of our academic programs at MACU. MACU Hires New Women’s Head Volleyball Coach

Elizabeth City, NC – February 23, 2016.  We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Kellie Kessler has been chosen as the new MACU Mustangs Women’s Volleyball Coach. Coach Kessler’s tenure begins immediately as she will be leading the workout for new recruits on Tuesday, February 23, and will take the reins fully in the 2016-2017 academic year. Coach Kessler has been the Director of the Beach Breakers Home School Volleyball Sports Program in Virginia Beach (Junior Junior Varsity, Junior Varsity and Varsity) as well as the Head Varsity Coach from 2008 to the present. She has led their team to first place finishes in pre-season tournaments as well as taking second place last year in their home school state conference. Mrs. Kessler also led her team to finish in the second division at a national tournament. Mrs. Kessler lives in Virginia Beach where she and her husband are involved in marriage and parenting ministries at Kempsville Christian Church.   Athletic Director Neal Alligood states, “We are tremendously excited to welcome Coach Kessler to our campus and our athletic staff. She will be the first female head coach to join our program. Biology Coming to MACU in Fall 2017

Elizabeth City, NC – February 10, 2016. The trustees of Mid-Atlantic Christian University met on February 9, 2016 and voted to approve a new Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (pre-professional). The university trustees approved this new degree program as part of the overall vision for the university called “Vision 2020.”  The strategic plan that guides the future of the university states that “the Department of Academic Affairs will provide 10 ministerial degrees to directly serve the churches and 20 marketplace degrees in different disciplines to directly influence the culture for Christ.” The B.S. in Biology will produce marketplace leaders that will influence science, medicine, healthcare, agriculture, genetics, and ethics. Students who graduate with the biology degree will also complete a major in biblical studies. MACU President D. Clay Perkins commented that “these are exciting times for Mid-Atlantic. MACU Ranked 21st in 50 Most Affordable Selective Small Colleges for a Psychology Degree 2015

Elizabeth City, NC – December 3, 2015.  Best Psychology Degrees has recognized Mid-Atlantic Christian University as one of the best and most affordable small colleges in the nation to study psychology. The program at Mid-Atlantic is a 127-credit program that combines a Biblical Studies major with a Counseling and Psychology major leading to BA or BS degrees. Program outcomes include understanding how emotional, spiritual, and mental needs impact relationships and personal growth and developing marketable skills for paraprofessional careers in education, rehabilitation, the justice system, mental health or pastoral counseling. Both tracks involve internship training in counseling settings. Coursework explores marriage and family counseling, human sexuality, spiritual development, cross-cultural communication and human services. Many MACU graduates continue in master’s or doctoral work leading to professional licensure. Colleges included in the ranking met three specific criteria. First, an undergraduate psychology degree offered in an on-campus or online format; Second, must have a student population of less than 3,000 students; and Third, report a 40 percent or lower admissions rate, which identifies the most selective schools.
