The Lead Pastor shall serve as the chief shepherd and overseer of the local church by feeding, leading, and nurturing the flock. This person’s main responsibilities will be to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership for the church.

Anticipated Time Commitment: 40+ hours per week

Qualifications

  • Leadership ability
  • Good communicator
  • Experience in teaching/preaching
  • Training/experience in counseling
  • Experience in leading others to Christ
  • Ability to be discreet
  • Spiritual giftedness in the areas of shepherding, exhortation, teaching, prophecy, evangelism
  • Active/growing spiritual life

 Responsibilities and Duties

 Preach sermons that are both biblically relevant and easily applied

  • Oversee pastoral staff
  • Provide leadership and vision for the church. Direct plans for ministry and church growth
  • Motivate, equip and nurture the people of the church through example, preaching and teaching God’s Word and spiritual counseling
  • Spend significant time in prayer/Bible study
  • Contact/visit hospitalized, shut-ins, hurting/grieving members
  • Provide monthly report to elders concerning shut-ins, numbers, and other pertinent church data
  • Officiate weddings/funerals for church members
  • Provide premarital counseling
  • Be available for counseling concerning spiritual matters (i.e. salvation, guidance, etc.)
  • Be available for counseling for other matters as time/skill permits
  • Perform sacraments such as communion and baptism
  • Oversee church discipline and manage conflicts within the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church
  • Participate in evangelism efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services
  • Be prepared to teach Bible studies, small groups, Sunday school classes, etc.
  • Ensure implementation of church policies/procedures
  • Be available for church members to contact, build relationships with church members
  • Greet people before/after services

The Lead Pastor is under the authority of the Elders. The Elders will communicate regularly with the Lead Pastor concerning performance, routine review, etc. The Lead Pastor will also have a formal yearly review where performance and compensation are evaluated/discussed, and goals for the next year are discussed and set.
