Mid-Atlantic Christian University Ranked 17th Among Top 100 Baccalaureate Colleges in Nation

Elizabeth City, NC – August 25, 2014.  Mid-Atlantic Christian University has been ranked 17th in the 2014 Washington Monthly’s list of college rankings. The Washington Monthly notes that its ranking is different from other college rankings.  They state: “Our rankings aim to identify institutions that are acting on behalf of the true public interest.”  The rankings are based on three factors. The first is social mobility, which gives colleges credit for enrolling many low-income students and helping them earn degrees. The second recognizes research production, particularly at schools whose undergraduates go on to earn PhDs. The third values a college’s commitment to service and involvement in the greater community.

Mid-Atlantic Christian University is proud of its 66 year history and the impact her alumni have made around the world.  Graduates serve in 46 states, 1 territory, and 25 countries.  Mid-Atlantic is a university that values integrity, compassion, and service. Faculty and staff , as well as students, model those values in the campus community.  The MACU exists to impact the world by transforming ordinary people into extraordinary Christian leaders.  John Maurice, Vice President of Advancement says, “Those who would lead must first learn how to serve.”

Mid-Atlantic’s president, Dr. Clay Perkins, noted, “At Mid-Atlantic we educate ministers. Many will serve in churches. Many will serve in the market place. But all serve. At graduation all graduates are given a towel to remind them to be servant leaders, as modeled by Jesus Christ. We are honored to be acknowledged for our service to others.”

MACU is an institution of higher learning that believes in the intrinsic value of every student.   The university is committed to helping all, regardless of income and status, receive a high quality faith-based education that prepares them for service in the marketplace or in the church.  We are pleased to be recognized by Washington Monthly for the third year in a row as an institution that is genuinely acting in the public interest.
