Campus Location -Mid-Atlantic Christian University is located at 715 NORTH POINDEXTER STREET in historic Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The twenty-acre campus is on the banks of the Pasquotank River, five blocks from the US 17/158 bypass and three blocks from the downtown business district and waterfront (see map in Directory section of this catalog). The city of 17,000 provides opportunities for employment, recreation, and shopping. The University is less than two miles from Albemarle Hospital, College of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City State University, and The Museum of the Albemarle. In addition, Mid-Atlantic Christian University is within an hour drive of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and the beaches of North Carolina‘s Outer Banks. The University is located in perhaps the thickest concentration of Churches of Christ on the Atlantic coast, from the metropolitan area of Norfolk, Virginia, 50 miles northward, to the rural counties of North Carolina, 100 miles southward. This strategic location affords many opportunities for involvement in church activities, student ministries, youth ministries, supply preaching and other Christian service.

Christian Service – For Christian Service requirements, traditional program students, please see the Student Handbook, pg 13 (find link below under Student Handbook Section).  Online students will find this information in the student handbook.

Counseling Services – Mid-Atlantic has two counselors on staff, Dr. David King and Mrs. Cindy Thoas, who are available to assist students as they encounter problems with depression, anxiety, grief, relationships, self-image, and anger, and other impulse control problems, as well as other personal issues. In addition, the RHDs, RAs, Student Life Director, and the VPSS are available to assist students. They are trained to make referrals when they cannot provide the necessary assistance.

Facilities – Work Order / Maintenance Request

Learning Center – Mid-Atlantic Christian University supports a campus learning center located in the Watson-Griffith Library. The Learning Center is supervised by a faculty member and is staffed by upperclassmen. Because the Learning Center exists to help students develop the academic skills they need to succeed at Mid-Atlantic, services are free to all students. Those who visit the Learning Center can expect to receive help with any academic need: study techniques, time management, test-taking strategies, English composition, completing projects and assignments, and basic computer skills.  Specific times are also scheduled to focus on classes students find more challenging.

Library Services – The Watson-Griffith Library provides excellent resources and facilities. A library orientation and handbook and the library staff will acquaint you with its services. Visit the Library pages for hours of operation, information on electronic resources, and to browse the online catalog.  In addition, you may use the libraries of the College of the Albemarle and Elizabeth City State University, as well as the public library.

Safety and Security- Information on campus safety and security is available here.

Student Handbook – We see God setting standards for his people to live by throughout the scripture to protect and train his people. Guidelines are the foundation for order in every community. This handbook contains the values of Mid-Atlantic Christian University. The standards for MACU students are based upon a Christian worldview and may have higher expectations than other communities you have experienced. The goal of these guidelines is growth and maturity that will enable success in your personal and professional lives. Enrollment at MACU binds you to understanding and following the standards of the student handbook. Please spend time reading and contemplating the implications of MACU’s values.
