Board of Trustees
Mid-Atlantic Christian University
Elizabeth City, North Carolina
April 18, 2017
Dear alumni and friends,
Dr. Clay Perkins, third President of Mid-Atlantic Christian University, has resigned. June 30, 2017, will tentatively be his last day as President.
The Trustees are thankful for Dr. Perkins’ exemplary, spiritual leadership since March 2006. His time with MACU is marked by many accomplishments.
While we are sad to see Dr. Perkins leave, we have anticipated this transition for some time. Since the average presidential tenure is 8.5 years, we are thankful that this transition is occurring during Perkins’ twelfth year. Remarkably, Mid-Atlantic has had only three presidents in her 69-year history. There has always been a very positive relationship with President Perkins, and that positive relationship remains. We anticipate, as Dr. Perkins states, he will not be a stranger and he will be a raving fan of MACU. He will likely serve as an adjunct professor and in other roles for years to come.
Dr. Perkins will begin working with Financial Planning Ministry (FPM). In that role he will continue as a chief fund raiser for MACU. FPM has had a strategic partnership with MACU since July 2004. We wish him all the best in his new role in the Kingdom.
While transitions are critical times for any organization, please know there is nothing negative about this transition. Please read Dr. Perkins’ resignation letter below, unedited. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
Effective immediately MACU Trustees will begin the search for her fourth President. Soon there will be a complete job posting on the University’s website. For now, the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees will serve as the Search Committee until a formal Search Committee can be appointed. For a complete list of Trustees, please visit the University’s website.
Mid-Atlantic is a strong school of superior biblical higher education. We are confident God will guide us in the selection of our next President. We ask for your prayers during this transition. We are excited about the future of MACU.
We anticipate the inauguration of our fourth President during our 70th anniversary celebration, likely during the MACU Rally, March 22-23, 2018. The future of MACU is bright.
Sincerely,
Greg Hand

Board of Trustees
Mid-Atlantic Christian University
Fellow Trustees,
It has been my privilege, granted by you, to serve those who serve. My time as President will without a doubt be the highlight of my years of ministry. It has been an honor and privilege.
I tender my resignation as President with an effective date of June 30, 2017.
Because of the great faculty and staff I have had the privilege to serve with, Mid-Atlantic has seen many significant gains since March 2006, such as, but not limited to, maintaining a solid biblical foundation focus, educating those to serve in the church and in the marketplace while increasing our alumni footprint (from alumni serving in 39 states to 48 states and from 14 countries to 26 countries), strengthening the Board of Trustees and the Foundation Board, setting a strategic map (Vision 2020), completing reaffirmation with ABHE and SACSCOC (without any continuation reporting), offering our first hard science degree, weathering numerous financial crises, bringing financial clarity, walking through a successful name change, weathering a tragedy on campus, increasing minority enrollment to over 30%, strengthening the Mid-Atlantic Foundation, growing expectancies to over $10 million, raising over $15 million dollars, reaching record enrollment for two academic years, establishing two sister school relationships (India and Thailand), expanding athletics program. Again, with any achievement made, the credit goes to the team, and ultimately, to the good Lord. It has been my privilege to travel over 400 thousand miles representing MACU.
My leaving is not motivated by any event, struggle, or success at Mid-Atlantic. God does not call us from any ministry. God calls us to ministry. I am excited to be going to a ministry that will allow me to significantly contribute to the financial stability of Mid-Atlantic. And I will indeed work hard in that endeavor.
I remain confident that Mid-Atlantic’s best days are ahead of her. God is already preparing the right person at the right time to be the fourth President of Mid-Atlantic, a person who will continue this invaluable ministry as we start the 70th year of impacting the world by transforming ordinary people into extraordinary Christian leaders by providing them a superior biblical higher education.
Again, thank you for the privilege and high honor of serving as President of Mid-Atlantic. Peace.
Serving those who serve,
D. Clay Perkins, Ph.D.
President
