FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Mid-Atlantic Christian University Participating in Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
Elizabeth City, NC – January 16, 2014 – Mid-Atlantic Christian University invites students and area youth to serve the Elizabeth City community through various service projects to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The University will host an evening of worship and challenge through their Sunday Night Live program on Sunday evening, Jan. 19, followed by a MLK Day of service on Monday. Work projects in the community will focus on restoration and beautification at Central Elementary, Elizabeth City Middle School, Northside Elementary, Weeksville Elementary, and Pasquotank Elementary, and on house restoration for Amen Ministries and Tabernacle of Faith Shelter.
Over 150 youth and college age volunteers are expected to volunteer 810 man hours serving the needs of our community. Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks such as cleaning, landscaping, and painting.
Dr. Ken Greene, Vice President for Student Services recalled King’s statement, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” Greene said, “This question is still a valid question for us as the Christian community as well as a society to reflect and act upon. I am excited to see MACU mobilize students and young people to meet the needs of those in the Elizabeth City area.”
Those wishing to join MACU in serving Jan. 20 should attend the Sunday evening service at 5-7 p.m. in the Chesson Gymnasium located in the Blanton Center. Service assignments will be finalized that evening and be ready for distribution that Monday morning.
Questions or comments may be directed to the Office of the President.
