Mid-Atlantic Foundation Banquet
October 17, 2013, the Mid-Atlantic Foundation will hold its annual banquet on campus. The event brings donors to campus who have designated scholarship funds inside the Mid-Atlantic Foundation. Donors will be able to meet Mid-Atlantic Christian University (MACU) students who received scholarship awards this academic year. This is a wonderful event that allows the students to meet and thank the donors in person in a casual atmosphere. Donors enjoy meeting these students and learning about what they are planning to do with the education they receive at MACU. Many of the Foundation donors are alumni of MACU and enjoy telling the current students about what MACU was like “back in the day.”
Sandra Perkins, Director of the Foundation, selected the first floor Harold C. Turner lobby for the venue this year. The riverfront lobby offers beautiful views and a cozy atmosphere. Thompson Hospitality will sponsor the dinner meal. There will be a brief program which will include presentations from students and donors. Joanne Norris and Emmett Murphy will speak on behalf of Foundation donors. Participants will also hear from current MACU students, Amy Isler and Aaron Stokes.
Mrs. Joanne Norris and her husband, Jerry, created a scholarship fund in the Foundation in honor of their daughter, Jennifer Norris Russell. Jennfer attended the University in 1984, and later her father, Jerry, earned a degree from MACU. The Jennifer Norris Russell Scholarship has been awarding student scholarships since 2006.
Mr. Emmett Murphy comes from a large family who are honoring their parents by establishing the Marshall and Viola Murphy Memorial Scholarship. The Murphys were impacted by their parents desire for their children to attend college even though they themselves had not completed high school.
The Mid-Atlantic Foundation was formed in 1985 to assist the University. It holds endowments for student scholarships and other funds. For information about the Foundation please contact director, Sandra Perkins, at sandra.perkins@macuniversity.edu or 252-334-2003.
