Mid-Atlantic Christian University to Re-launch Women’s Volleyball
Elizabeth City, NC – August 6, 2012 – The Athletic Department at Mid Atlantic Christian University announces the re-launch of her Intercollegiate Women’s Volleyball program beginning fall 2013.
After winning five straight conference championships in the Shenandoah & Chesapeake Athletic Conference from 2004 to 2008, the MACU Lady Mustangs took a break from competing in women’s volleyball. Now the Lady Mustangs will be back and plan to rebuild to the place of prominence they once enjoyed.
Resuming the intercollegiate volleyball program is another bold step in the process of growing the university’s athletic program, which offers men’s and women’s basketball in addition to women’s volleyball.
MACU will be aggressively recruiting quality young women who desire to be a vital part of the university. Such women should desire to successfully complete a Mid-Atlantic degree program, will be a person of high character, will seek to excel in the classroom as well as on the court, and also be an integral part of MACU’s “missional mindset” of investing in the local community.
President Clay Perkins noted, “We are excited to resume women’s volleyball at Mid-Atlantic. Athletic Director Neal Alligood has been developing excellent plans to attract and engage athletes who will be both excellent players and students. We look forward to cheering our Mustangs on to victory in women’s collegiate volleyball.”
Interested individuals should contact Athletic Director Neal Alligood for more information at neal.alligood@macuniversity.edu or 252.334.2087.
Athletic Director Alligood stated, “Our mission is to use sports as a tool to build up leaders in the community, on the campus, and in the classroom, as well as on the court. I believe we will see some great young ladies deciding to further their education in a wonderful Christ-centered environment here at MACU while at the same time being able to live out a dream of playing volleyball on the collegiate level. I am excited about the potential to move quickly back into competing at the top of our conference even after a few years of not fielding a team. We invite you to get ready to join in on the fun of backing our Lady Mustangs when they hit the court in the fall of 2013!”
