Elizabeth City, NC – October 8, 2015. Affordable Colleges Online has released its annual rankings for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. This organization analyzed data from hundreds of colleges across the nation with online degrees in social work at the bachelor’s level. Mid-Atlantic Christian University was ranked #1 for offering the most notable balances of academic rigor, student support, and affordability for online learning.
Rankings were based upon a proprietary scoring system to score these colleges based upon various cost-to-quality criteria and metrics, or the AC Online Peer-Based Value. This proprietary metric compares qualitative components of colleges with similar costs against the tuition of colleges with similar quality metrics. The general criteria and scoring metrics include:
– Must be a private or public not-for-profit institution
– Must offer at least one fully online degree program
– Number of online bachelor’s degrees available
– Student-faculty ratio
– Percent of students receiving financial aid
– Academic and career counseling
– 6-year graduation rate
Dr. Ken Greene, Vice President of Student Services and Professor of Youth and Family Studies states: “MACU’s Youth and Family Studies program has developed a curriculum certified by the National Council of Family Relations to train students to work with families in secular, non-profit and religious organizations. The focal point has been to offer students insight and practical skills to understand the diverse needs of families that span the life-cycle from birth to death. This degree program prepares students to meet the changing needs of society to produce healthy and effective individuals and families.”
The International Association of Schools of Social Work has four mandates: to promote social development, social change and social cohesion and to empower people. The evaluator’s comments regarding MACU’s program: “Practical skills with Christian values are the focus of Mid-Atlantic Christian University’s online bachelor’s degree program in family studies. The program guides students in becoming family life educators, teaching others about communication skills, typical human development, good decision-making skills, healthy relationships, and positive self-esteem. Graduates should be prepared to enter careers in ministry, public policy, administration and as family life teachers. The online schedule is flexible, allowing students to complete coursework at their convenience, as long as they meet assignment deadlines. Upon graduation, students receive the same diploma as their on-campus peers.” President D. Clay Perkins states that “Mid-Atlantic is honored to have been recognized as the best online program in this field among some very notable colleges and universities.”
