Mid-Atlantic Christian University is excited to host Seniors by the Sea on Thursday, June 9th inside of the Davenport Chapel at MACU. Below are biographies of the speakers for the event!
John Murphy married a beautiful Crimean girl named Iryna and God has blessed them with two great teens, Stefan and Charleze. John graduated from MACU with a bachelor’s in ministry and graduated with a MA in theology from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. Since 1994 John has been involved with church planting efforts in Ukraine as well as outreach to Muslims on the Crimean Peninsula. His latest venture took us to Odessa, Ukraine in 2003 and more info is available about it on their Facebook page: “Odessa Mission Updates”. On February 24th, 2022, his family was displaced by the war but thankfully Bonnie Brae Church of Christ in Richmond, VA stepped up to provide them with temporary shelter. Meanwhile, the Odessa Mission has launched a new initiative called “Love for Ukrainians” in conjunction with Mercy Partners to provide the Ukrainian people with temporary relief and lasting hope in the war’s aftermath. Bane Angles was born and raised in Tazewell, Virginia. Growing up he played numerous sports including wrestling, cross country running, and swimming. In 1996 he attended Army basic training at Fort Benning, GA and later was trained as a heavy equipment operator and combat engineer. He spent six years serving with the Virginia Army National Guard. In 2002 he graduated with B.A. in Practical Ministries from the Bluefield College of Evangelism. He then attended Cincinnati Christian University and received a M.A. in Preaching in 2005 and Master of Divinity in 2006. In 2016 he received his Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation from Ashland Theological Seminary. His dissertation project focused on the use of spiritual disciplines in a small group setting.
Bane was ordained into Christian Ministry in 1999. He has served in ministry in Virginia, Ohio, and North Carolina. From 2008 until the summer of 2021, he served as the Lead Minister at First Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC, where he and his wife still attend. He has also served with Christian camps as a volunteer leader many weeks. He has served on the boards of Roanoke Christian Camp and Waypoint Church Partners. He has published several popular level articles for local newspapers and the Lookout. He taught as an adjunct for MACU for several years before transitioning to full time and has taught college classes in Rwanda, Nicaragua, and India.
Bane and his wife, Crystal, were married in the same ceremony as his ordination in 1999. They have two wonderful little girls, Karis and Priya. They enjoy hiking, water sports, and traveling together whenever possible. He also enjoys reading, photography, good coffee, meals with friends, live music, and learning the stories and cultures of those around him.
Charquise Smith-Stultz is a 2022 graduate from MACU that was a finalist for the Next Gen Preacher Search hosted by Pepperdine University. Charquise currently serves as the Children’s Minister at Christ Fellowship in Portsmouth, Virginia.
