Feb 23, 2016 | General Info, News

Elizabeth City, NC – February 23, 2016.  We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Kellie Kessler has been chosen as the new MACU Mustangs Women’s Volleyball Coach. Coach Kessler’s tenure begins immediately as she will be leading the workout for new recruits on Tuesday, February 23, and will take the reins fully in the 2016-2017 academic year.

Coach Kessler has been the Director of the Beach Breakers Home School Volleyball Sports Program in Virginia Beach (Junior Junior Varsity, Junior Varsity and Varsity) as well as the Head Varsity Coach from 2008 to the present. She has led their team to first place finishes in pre-season tournaments as well as taking second place last year in their home school state conference. Mrs. Kessler also led her team to finish in the second division at a national tournament. Mrs. Kessler lives in Virginia Beach where she and her husband are involved in marriage and parenting ministries at Kempsville Christian Church.

Athletic Director Neal Alligood states, “We are tremendously excited to welcome Coach Kessler to our campus and our athletic staff. She will be the first female head coach to join our program. I believe she will be a welcome voice for all the young ladies involved with MACU athletics. This is a historic hire that we are truly blessed to have unfolding in our campus community. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the game as someone who has played and coached for many years. Coach Kessler also has a passion for using athletics to grow players spiritually, academically and socially, a passion that fits directly with the DNA of MACU Mustangs athletics. We look forward to Coach Kessler’s building on the strong foundation that Coach Pipkin had created.”

President Clay Perkins commented, “Mid-Atlantic is excited about student athletics. Coach Kessler is a great addition to our coaching staff. Her commitment to faith, family, academics, and sports is in harmony with MACU’s ethos. We are pleased to offer a strong faith-based option for those who wish to participate in sports on a collegiate level.“
