Dr. King earned his Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Capella University. He also earned a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Regent University. He is a licensed professional counselor supervisor in the state of North Carolina and a national certified counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors.

In addition to his academic preparation, Dr. King brings a wealth of experience to the classroom. For thirty-two years, he was in federal civilian service working for the United States Coast Guard and the United States Department of Education. He has been an adjunct faculty member at MACU for the past five years and has also been an adjunct faculty member at Azusa Pacific University, Southern New Hampshire University, and the University of Phoenix. Appointed by former NC governor Pat McCrory, Dr. King is concluding a time of service on the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors, currently as chairman.

Dr. King and his wife are active and founding members of New Community Church in Elizabeth City. One of his hobbies is that he referees high school football games in eastern NC; and in the fall 2016 he was the referee for the NC State Class 3AA championship game.

Dr. King is filling a vacancy that will be created in December when Mr. Donald McKinney steps out of full-time service with MACU in order to return to full-time preaching ministry in eastern NC.
