Mid-Atlantic Christian University Announces New Women’s Basketball Coach for 2012-2013 Season

Elizabeth City, NC – March 12, 2012 – Mid- Atlantic Christian University announces the hiring of Women’s Basketball Coach, Michael Cisero, in anticipation of the university’s women’s basketball program for fall of 2012. MACU revitalized her sports program earlier this year by hiring her first full-time athletic director. MACU continues to offer athletes the opportunity to develop their skill in a Christian environment with the addition of a women’s basketball program.

Mid-Atlantic Christian University President Clay Perkins shared, “This is more good news! Now young women have another option to pursuing collegiate sports and a collegiate degree in one of our 20+ majors at Mid-Atlantic. We are glad to have Coach Cisero on our team.”

Neal Alligood, MACU’s Athletic Director states, “I am excited about the university’s continued commitment to aggressively seek to grow this athletic program.  I believe that with the addition of Coach Cisero, we are on the right track, and I am eagerly looking forward to serving alongside him as we minister to and through the avenue of athletics.”

Michael Cisero, a decorated war veteran, played for MACU during the 2004 – 2005 season.  He went on to coach men’s and women’s basketball in Germany and Iraq while serving in the United States Army. He has been married to his wife, Elizabeth, (a Camden, NC, native) eight years and has two sons, Zamarion and Zakell.

Cisero explains why he pursued the position at MACU: “I would not be the man I am today without God in my life and the positive influence I received from my time spent at Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Some of the things that I will bring to this position are things that MACU represents already – a great family atmosphere, outstanding character, and strong academic principles.”

Ken Greene, Vice President for Enrollment Services, commented, “We are excited about the addition of women’s basketball. It is the first addition to an expanding sports program. Our goal is to add women’s volleyball and men’s soccer for the 2013 -2014 season and to continue adding one to two teams a year for the near future. We recognize that there are students of character looking not only for an athletic outlet, but a strong values-based education.”
