Elizabeth City, NC – February 14, 2025 – Mid-Atlantic Christian University (MACU) is off to a strong start this year, showcasing its achievements in athletics, academics, and community service. The university focuses on fostering leadership in all areas of life, aiming to develop well-rounded individuals committed to excellence.
MACU students are volunteering at the Carolina Christian Youth Conference (CCYC), one of the largest Christian conferences for teens all over North Carolina and southern Virginia, expected to host over 2,200 attendees. They will assist in various roles such as game room support, stagehand duties, merchandise sales, camera operation, photography, workshop facilitation, and security. Several speakers, including the main speaker and worship leader, are MACU alumni.
The university has just partnered with Dordt University to offer special consideration for graduates (with a GPA of 3.0) applying to Dordt’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program. This program is available online and the agreement allows for up to 12 credit hours to be waived based on relevant undergraduate courses or internships completed at MACU. While Counseling/Psychology students are most likely to benefit, any graduate, including those from other majors such as ministry or business, may be considered.
Athletics play a key role in MACU’s culture, fostering teamwork, character, and community. Over half of the students on the Fall Dean’s List are student-athletes, balancing athletics and academics. The men’s basketball team recently made history by defeating the ECSU Vikings for the first time in ten years, and MACU athletes earned seven National All-Academic honors. The baseball team aims for its fifth consecutive Nationals appearance, while the golf team achieved its best-ever Nationals performance, with two All-American players.
MACU operates solely on donations and tuition, students are eligible for federal and state funding assistance, but the university does not receive any state or federal funding for operational costs. Recent donations, such as one from F&H Print Sign Design to support the basketball team, are vital to its operations. The basketball team is working toward a $10,000 fundraising goal for basketball equipment, with each sport having its own fundraising needs. The university seeks ongoing community support.
As the university celebrates these achievements, MACU remains committed to developing well-rounded students in a Christ-centered environment, blending academic excellence with spiritual and social growth.
