Dr. Jack Cottrell to speak at MACU Commencement, and will receive honorary doctorate

Elizabeth City, NC – February 17th, 2014 – Mid-Atlantic Christian University is pleased to announce Dr. Jack Cottrell will speak at its Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., in the Chesson Gymnasium in the Albert Blanton III Campus Life Center.  Dr. Cottrell has also been selected to receive Mid-Atlantic Christian University’s degree of Doctor of Divinity, h.c. He will be presented this degree during the Commencement ceremony.

Jack W. Cottrell has been a Professor of Theology at Cincinnati Christian University since 1967. Dr. Cottrell has earned a BA and ThB from Cincinnati Christian University, a BA from University of Cincinnati, a  MDiv from Westminster Theological Seminary, and a PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary. He has authored over 20 books on Christian theology and doctrine. His latest book is titled God Most High: What the Bible Says about God the Creator, Ruler, and Redeemer, His Truth, published by College Press.

Mid-Atlantic University recognizes and honors individuals of extraordinary achievement, distinguished service, or exemplary character by awarding them an Honorary Doctorate appropriate to their accomplishments. This degree is being awarded to Dr. Jack Cottrell for extraordinary work in educating and encouraging those who would be disciples of Christ, demonstrated by his life’s work as a professor, thinker, and author. The Honorary Doctorate is the highest honor that MACU confers, and the University has awarded only three to date. Previous recipients are William A. Griffin, President of MACU from 1986 to 2006 (2006); Bob Russell, retired lead minister with Southeast Christian Church, Louisville, KY (2008); and Dr. Dennis Pruett, pioneering medical missionary (2010).
