Brief Biography:

Kathy Smith was born and raised in California. She graduated from Biola University with her BSN and double-majored in Biblical Studies. She met and married her husband Dan there. Kathy practiced as an RN for 30 years in a variety of clinical areas, including ICU, Neonatal ICU, and ambulatory pediatrics. A firm believer in lifelong learning, she switched gears and earned a Master’s degree in English/Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University.

In addition to advising students in the Nursing program and teaching, Kathy is responsible for assisting students who have disabilities, as well as managing the Learning Resource Center/peer tutoring program at MACU.

Avid sailors, Kathy and Dan are involved in Maritime Ministries, a sailing missional organization that has partnered with Mid-Atlantic Christian University to reach and serve students, cruising sailors, and churches and camps along the North Carolina coast. Maritime’s sailboats are berthed on MACU’s docks along the riverfront.

Kathy loves art journaling and writing poetry. She and Dan live downtown with two goofy cats named Sailor and Ike. They have three grown children, and are blessed to have the cutest grandchildren in the history of the world, Emmy and Elliot.
