Brief Biography:
Beth Strecker is a native of North Carolina and has lived in the eastern part of the state since 1994. She has over 20 years experience in public education and has taught math, science, and language arts. Her background also includes working as elementary, middle, and high school media specialist and was formally the Technology Director for Elizabeth City Pasquotank Public Schools. Passion for educational technology and reading lead her to share this knowledge with other educators by teaching higher education courses at East Carolina University and Elizabeth City State University at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. In 2018 God called her to serve as the Library Director at Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Working as a professor in education has been a life-long dream and she is honored to have the opportunity to facilitate future educators in achieving their career goals of becoming a teacher.
Strecker earned her doctorate in educational leadership from East Carolina University, master’s degree in library science from East Carolina University, and bachelor’s degree in middle grades math and science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Her love of reading and concern that students were not able to solve math problems due to their lack of reading and comprehension skills caused her to return to ECU and UNCW to certify in K-12 reading and curriculum instruction. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher and recertified in 2011.
Beth is married to Rick Strecker and they have a daughter, Paige. She is an active member of Sawyer’s Creek Baptist Church located in Camden and enjoys playing in the handbell choir. She serves on the Music and Worship Committee and chairs the Safety and Security Taskforce and Library Committee. Free time is spent reading, cooking, and going to swim meets and the beach.
