Artificial Intelligence Literacy Certificate
The Artificial Intelligence Literacy Certificate is crafted to be inclusive and approachable for all students, without the need for any prior coding experience or AI knowledge. According to the World Economic Forum, demand for AI jobs is expected to grow by around 40%, or nearly/more than 1 million jobs, by 2027. Given that this certificate is non-technical, it opens the door to a diverse array of job opportunities. Tuition and FAQs
The Artificial Intelligence Literacy Certificate (AILC) is a 12 credit hour certificate that is completed online.
How much?
- The flat-rate tuition is $3,000 for the entire certificate, which is $250 per credit hour vs. the current online tuition rate of $350 per credit hour
- Tuition may be paid in two installments
- This program is not eligible for Title IV funding (Pell Grants and Federal Loans or MACU Scholarships)
How long?
- The motivated student may complete the program in 1-year.
- Students have 24 months to complete the coursework
- If the program is not completed in 24 months, the current standard tuition rates will apply for the remaining courses, there is no process to prorate or refund tuition
How do I apply?
- Apply online
- Applicants will need to make arrangements for official transcripts for their high school, community college, trade school and college work to be sent to the MACU Admissions office
May I take other MACU courses?
- Students may take other courses not included in the AILC program but students will be charged regular tuition for those courses
- An AILC student may choose to apply his or her AILC to a MACU Associate or Bachelor’s degree as elective hours

AILY 111. AI for Everyone. 3 credit hours
Artificial Intelligence is changing the world. It is changing jobs, creating them, and even replacing them (but less than you think). More than ever before, companies need employees who can use AI tools to solve problems creatively and responsibly. This non-technical AI crash course builds the foundational skills needed to do that and is designed to be valuable to anyone. Learn how to distinguish problems that AI is useful for, master prompt engineering to improve outputs, detect AI-generated output, analyze ethics and privacy, and stay up-to date on one of the most transformative technologies of our lifetimes.
AILY 211. AI for Decision Making. 3 credit hours
Artificial Intelligence decisions are often only as good as the person asking the question. In this course, you’ll learn how to ask the right ones and increase the productivity and innovation you can achieve with AI. Create better prompts, compare and contrast strengths and limitations, evaluate outcomes, and by the end of this course, understand and leverage the power of AI for decision-making across any discipline, opening up new career paths and personal growth. Prerequisite: AILY 111.
AILY 212. AI for Creativity. 3 credit hours
Generative AI has introduced a new paradigm of AI: the co-creator. Top professionals and companies use AI to improve productivity and creativity every day, and in this course, you’ll learn the iterative prompting, search, and functional evaluation metrics powering these uses. By the end of this course, you’ll integrate AI tools into a variety of creative skill sets, and your own projects, building new avenues for creativity in your career. Prerequisite: AILY 111.
AILY 213. AI Ethics. 3 credit hours
Have you ever heard someone say that AI could take over the world? As drastic as that may sound, AI poses substantial ethical risks to businesses, people, and anyone taking advantage of the technology. Therefore, learning the ethical theories and legal frameworks surrounding AI is critical for anyone using AI tools. This course will explore the ethical standards and legal requirements in AI deployment, covering topics such as bias, privacy, and governance. Prerequisite: AILY 111.
