Biology

The Bachelor of Science in Biology will prepare students for a wide range of opportunities after graduation with a solid foundation from a biblical worldview.  Students that complete the environmental science concentration will go to the Au Sable Institute and have a hands-on experience learning about the natural world, environmental issues, conservation biology and wildlife biology.

Students that complete the pre-professional concentration will be prepared for further study in graduate and professional programs in areas such as genetics, microbiology, immunology, and health careers (for example in medicine, pharmacy, optometry, dentistry or other health sciences).

Students successfully completing the Biology major will:

demonstrate a knowledge base within the study of biology

Admissions and Graduation Requirements

Admission Requirements

Due to the rigorous intentions of the program, beyond the admissions requirements for the university, applicants must have a mimium composite ACT of 21 (1060-1090 for SAT [Total]) and pass BIOL 141 and BIOL 151 with a minimum grade of C.  Students who do not have a minimum composite ACT of 21 may be admitted to the program by having a MACU cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the end of the freshman year and completing BIOL 141 and BIOL 151 with a minimum grade of B.

Graduation Requirements
  1. Complete all required biology courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.5. Biology majors are allowed only one “D” in a required biology course for the degree.
  2. Complete all related major support courses which include: mathematics, physics, anatomy and physiology, and chemistry with a minimum of a C average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale).
