Mid-Atlantic Christian University jumps in Washington Monthly top college rankings

Elizabeth City, NC – September 13, 2013.  Mid-Atlantic Christian University has been ranked 40th in the Washington Monthly’s list of college rankings, up from last year’s ranking of 52nd. The Washington Monthly rankings are based on three factors. The first is social mobility, which gives colleges credit for enrolling many low-income students and helping them earn degrees. The second recognizes research production, particularly at schools whose undergraduates go on to earn PhDs. The third values a college’s commitment to service. The more expensive college becomes, the more students are encouraged to see higher education as a mere return on investment. The students in the “best colleges,” according to this ranking, are taught by example and design to look beyond themselves and give back.

Mid-Atlantic is pleased to provide a high-quality Christian-based education at an affordable price. The college has made a strong effort to make classes available to all through scholarships and grants to ease the financial burden on students. According to Dr. Clay Perkins, “The school has always been a place for first generation and low-income college students to achieve their dream of a college education.” This year, Mid-Atlantic has taken another step by providing fully online degrees, enabling students from all walks of life to pursue an education at their own pace and without the costs of room and board.

Mid-Atlantic is committed to raising up servant leaders who impact the church and the community through loving service. Mid-Atlantic teaches its students the importance of serving in a tangible way that clearly communicates compassion and concern. Dr. Perkins shared that “Mid-Atlantic has a rich tradition of serving others in the community and around the world”, a tradition that has been at the heart of the college since its foundation. He also said that “[Mid-Atlantic’s] professors and staff model such service for the students.”

Mid-Atlantic Christian University is grateful to be recognized for its work with low-income students and its focus on community service. The college will continue to commit itself to excellence, to making an impact on the world with a quality Christian-based education, and to placing a high priority on service. Mid-Atlantic is especially grateful to community partners who have worked with the university to make this community impact possible.
