Mid-Atlantic Christian University is pleased to announce that Gerald Woodworth will be joining the faculty at Mid-Atlantic Christian University at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Mr. Woodworth will serve full-time as Assistant Professor of Biology.
A native of Tennessee, Mr. Woodworth is in his final steps of completing a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. In his doctoral program, he has been researching the effects of deer upon invasive plants in forests. Prior to his studies at UVA he completed a master’s degree in Environmental Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He holds a B.S. in Biology from Bryan College in Dayton, TN.
In addition to his academic preparation, Mr. Woodworth will bring to the classroom prior experience teaching undergraduates, both as an adjunct faculty member at Shenandoah University and mentoring students in the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates at the Blandy Experimental Farm, Boyce, VA.
Mr. Woodworth is a member of the Ecological Society of America and the Society for Ecological Restoration (National and Mid-Atlantic Chapter). He is also an active member of a local church in the Charlottesville, VA area.
The hiring of Mr. Woodworth enables Mid-Atlantic to initiate the offering of its newly approved biology major and science education major. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges gave its approval last fall for MACU to begin these programs in Fall 2017.
He, his wife, and two young sons plan to move to Elizabeth City in the summer.
James Owens also will be joining the faculty at Mid-Atlantic Christian University at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year as an adjunct faculty member teaching Anatomy and Physiology in the new biology and science education programs.
Dr. Owens is a family physician in Jarvisburg, NC and the medical examiner for Currituck County (NC). He earned his medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Academy of Family Medicine. In addition to being a Lt. Col. in the US Air Force Reserves, Dr. Owens is a member at Powells Point Christian Church in Harbinger, NC.
