*Instead of a resume, please contact Tim Cole with Waypoint Church Partners [email@example.com] to request our Ministry Prospects Questionnaire. The Journey is looking for quality candidates specifically with experience with the “Independent Christian Churches” family of churches (Stone-Campbell, Restoration Movement).
The Journey is searching for a Connections Pastor who will oversee helping people take their next steps in their faith journey. This person would continue to develop our next step processes, oversee our neighborhood groups, lead guest services teams, help develop our communications systems, and also be a part of our teaching team. They will work within The Journey’s coaching model to recruit leaders, build teams, coach others, connect people into the life of the church community, and work alongside the Lead Pastor. The ideal candidate will be a coachable leader who can grow this ministry by building a team of leaders to care for others.
The Journey Church, in Springfield, is located in Northern Virginia (NOVA), just 12 miles south of the Capital District of Washington, DC. With the history of Old Town Alexandria, the modern sites of National Harbor, the best museums in the nation around the National Mall, not to mention all the local sports teams (Capitals, Commanders, DC United, Mystics, Nationals, and Wizards), there is always something to do nearby (with a Metro station less than 2 miles from the church). Beaches are 3 hours away, with the Blue Ridge Mountains looming less than 1 hour away. And if you have kids? The Fairfax County School System is one of the biggest in the country, but also one of the best, and the job market here continues to grow. This is a great place to live and to grow a family.
The Journey Church has been a growing, healthy church for 50 years. The people who attend The Journey are young with an average age of around 37 years old. They are ethnically diverse, coming from many different nationalities. Although The Journey’s history is grounded within the Restoration Movement of churches, people who attend come from all different types of faith backgrounds. Many in the church work with federal government agencies. We also have a large contingent of military families.
Pre-COVID, The Journey was averaging over 700 people in three services which included over 200 children in the Journey Kids ministry. Currently, The Journey is now averaging 585 people with about 25% still joining us online weekly with right at 100 people kids in Journey Kids.
The Lead Pastor, Chad Simpkins, has been at The Journey for six years. He emphasizes leadership development through coaching leaders and ensuring the staff models health for our church. The current staff of 9 is a mixture of full and part-time positions, making for an engaging, team-oriented culture.
