Job Title: Youth Pastor and Outreach Coordinator (Paid internship)

Summary: The intern will work with the Christ Episcopal Church (CEC) Youth Directors,
under the supervision of the Rector, in leading, developing, and guiding the church’s youth
program (grades 4-12,) and will assist the outreach committee in planning mission and outreach
opportunities in the local community and beyond. The Intern will strive to encourage all youth to
grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and will serve as a faithful example of Christian
living. The intern may attend student functions at schools and home school events, grow
relationships with the education community, and support students and their families with prayer
and encouragement.

Annual Salary: $19,000 (19 hours per week)
Housing Allowance: Provided as needed
Duration of internship: August 1, 2024- July 31, 2025 (With the possibility of extension)

Job Description: The Youth Pastor and Outreach Coordinator shall have the following duties
and responsibilities:
• Attend and participate in weekly CEC staff meetings.
• Attend, and encourage youth to attend, all 10:30am Sunday services and “Holy Day”
services. (Christmas, Easter, All Saints, etc.)
• Partner with CEC youth directors and staff to oversee, grow, and coordinate the church’s
youth ministry program. (EYC)
• Design, oversee, and examine biblical curriculum for weekly middle and high school
EYC, and Youth Sunday school (6th grade +)
• Assist Youth Directors in the planning and implementation of youth events such as
retreats, beach days, ski trips, etc.
• Assist Youth Directors with acolyte training and oversight.
• Encourage youth to attend and participate in diocesan youth events.
• Assist Youth Directors in planning and implementation of youth services. (Evensong,
Lessons and Carols, Youth Sunday, etc.)
• Develop positive relationships with youth and their parents.
• Share program plans through social media, e-news, group chat, and other available forms
of communication.
• Incorporate youth into various church ministries. (mission trips, acolyte ministry, lay
reading, etc.)• Strive to invite and fully include new youth into the program from outside Christ
Episcopal Church.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of summer VBS program.
• Assist with CEC’s local mission efforts; (SOULS ministry, Food Bank of the Albemarle,
Boys and Girls Club, La Casa, etc.)
• Strive to place an emphasis in mission on serving the “least of these,” building bridges
across racial and socioeconomic barriers, and strengthening Christ Church’s relationships
with community partners.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of CEC’s annual mission trip. (Attendance
on the mission trip is mandatory)

All employees of Christ Church are expected to conduct their lives in accordance with the
teachings of Biblical Christianity. Respect for others and love of neighbor are foundation
principals at Christ Church.
Physical Demands
The employee is required to climb multiple flights of steps to access the youth room; and/or
move chairs, tables, and other items in preparation for VBS, Christmas pageant, etc.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time 19 hour per week position.
Time off
• Two weeks paid vacation
• Four Sundays off annually
• All federal holidays (excluding major feast days of the church)
Qualifications:
• Must complete Safe Church Training program through the Diocese of East Carolina.
• Familiarity with youth ministry programs and youth curriculums
• Outgoing and friendly personality
• An ability to relate to both youth and adults.
• Basic understanding of Holy Scripture and Christian theology
• Familiarity with liturgical church tradition (preferred)
Education/ Experience:
• Certificate or degree in youth ministry or related field (preferred)
• Prior experience in Christian education (preferred)
• Completed coursework in Bible, theology, or church history (preferred)
