Elizabeth City, NC – April 27, 2017. Mid-Atlantic Christian University will host Dr. Ajai Lall on Monday, May 1, 2017. Dr. Lall, a native of India, is a 1983 graduate of Mid-Atlantic Christian University. After graduation, he and his wife, Indu, returned to India where they began Central India Christian Mission (CICM). He subsequently earned a M.A. in Humanities and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Sagar.
CICM responds to the needs of people in India and surrounding countries through outreach initiatives including providing medical care, disaster relief, shelter, food, education, training, and more. The mission established a college, Central India Bible Academy (CIBA) which is a sister school to MACU. The Lalls established a hospital and branch clinics which in 2016 served more than 70,000 patients. Since CICM was founded, seven orphanages have been started which care for 1,200 children, including 135 children with special needs. Since 1983 CICM has baptized more than 400,000 people and established nearly 1,400 churches.
India is one of the most populous nations in the world. Nearly 1.2 billion people are crammed into a space one-third the size of the U.S. Within this population 2,533 separate people groups are represented. Out of these people groups, 2,233 have never been exposed to the gospel. Most Indians are Hindu, worshipping more than 330 million different gods. Christianity is the minority religion, representing only 2.3% of the total population. These Christians are often persecuted by fanatical rebel groups. Some are forced to renounce their religion in order to keep their homes, businesses, and lives. In 2008 Hindu extremists murdered 110 Christians and destroyed more than 170 churches and 4,500 homes.
Dr. Lall is no stranger to threats and persecution. He once preached with AK-47s pointed at him. On another occasion, more than 200 bullets were fired into his bedroom for sharing the gospel. These experiences inspired him to write a book, Christian Extremism: A Life Worth Dying For. This insightful book, and the subject of the workshop, is a call to action for Christians to get out of their comfort zones and become “Christian Extremists.” Lall advocates a positive form of extremism that will “result in a move of God that can transform this world in an incredible way – not through anger, bombs and pain, but through love, commitment, and sacrifice.” Dr. Lall will appeal for Christians to live and serve with compassion and humility as they obey Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples of all nations.”
