Postini utilizes the Postini Threat Identification Network to identify email-based spam and virues before they reach the MACU network.
Postini stats for MACU:
- Effective spam catch rate of 90%.
- Effectively identifies 1400 spam messages per day.
- Effectively prevents the delivery of 35 viruses per day.
Making Google Postini Services Work for You
Postini will deliver a daily quarantine summary to your MACU inbox. It is imperative that you read this message because it will let you know that Postini has blocked some potential emails and sometimes legitimate mail will get flagged as spam.
If you have been expecting a specific email and it does not arrive in your MACU inbox, it is possible that it is sitting in your Postini Quarantine Folder.
You can check your Postini account at any time by loggin in to your Message Center.
From the Postini Message Center you can deliver messages that you want to reach your MACU mailbox and delete the messages that were correctly flagged as spam. If you chose to deliver selected emails you will then be given the option to approve the sender. You will then recieve all emails from the sender and they will never be flagged as spam.
Managing your Mailbox
Spam Settings
To manage your Junk Email and sender list, click on the Junk Email Settings link in the top left of the Postini Message Center.
Postini will only be as aggressive as you want it to be. By default, your settings will be very aggressive. If you feel that these settings are not working for you, please feel free to adjust them to better meet your needs.
You can adjust the general Bulk Email filter from lenient to aggresive, as well as, drill down and fine tune your settings for each different category. If you decide to change any of your filters, make sure that you check your Message Center regularly to ensure that mail is reaching your accound as desired.
Make sure you save your settings after making any changes.
Approving Senders
If legitimate mail is being constantly flagged as spam login the theMessage Center and add the sender to your Approved Senders list. Any mail from senders on your Approved Senders list will bypass Postini and will be delivered to your mailbox.
IMPORTANT:
- Never add entire domains (e.g. yahoo.com, hotmail.com, macuniversity.edu, etc.) to your Approved Sendors list. Any domain can be spoofed to send mail.
- Only enter individual email address into the Approved Sender list.
Blocking Senders
If spam or unwanted mail is being delivered to your mailbox login the theMessage Center and add the sender to your Blocked Senders list. All mail from senders on your Blocked Senders list will be placed in the Quarantine Folder in your Postini Message Center.
IMPORTANT:
- Do not block entire domains like gmail.com, yahoo.com, or macuniversity.edu.
- It is always preferred to block individual senders rather than entire domains.
- Only block entire domains you are sure about.
Reminder: If expected mail doesn't arrive:
- Check your Quarantine Folder
- Put the sender on your Approved Senders list
- Adjust your Spam and Junk mail filters accordingly
