Commuters & Adult Learners
Here at MACU, our campus is full of students with many different backgrounds. Approximately half of the students here are considered “adult learners”; men and women who have decided to start or resume a degree program at a later point in life, not coming here directly from high school.
We want our campus to feel as much like home as possible, and as an adult learner, we would like you to explore and utilize all that our campus has to offer.
For adult learners and commuters, MACU provides many amenities:
For those who want to relocate to pursue an education here at MACU, the university has several different housing options. From our smaller apartments to our larger Myers Village townhomes, we have several alternatives to accommodate your needs.
Conveniently located in our main educational building, Heritage Hall hosts our newest student lounge. Just outside of the dining hall, students can purchase a cup of Starbucks coffee throughout the day, study, use the internet, and take a break from the grind. It is also a great place to catch up with friends in between classes. There are also student lounges found on each floor of Pearl A. Presley Residence Hall. The lounges in Presley Hall also offer vending machines, televisions, and arcade games. Our dorm lounges have water-front views and offer a place to study, rest or meditate.
There’s no need to pack lunch or travel off campus at mealtimes. Adult learners can dine in our dining hall if they desire, and meals can be purchased as needed, or meal plan cards can be purchased for reduced pricing. Vending machines are also available in several locations around campus for convenience.
Escape from classes and exercise in our fitness center located in Presley Hall. Our fitness center is open on a daily basis.
Long breaks between classes? The Watson-Griffith Library is a terrific place to study, work on assignments, or just take a reading break. Our library offers computer access, wireless internet connection, and numerous academic resources; all with a scenic view of the waterfront.
As an adult learner, you are invited to participate in any of our intramural sports and Student Life events scheduled throughout the year. We also provide events that are especially geared toward our adult learners, and also like to encourage you to stay involved in other campus events. Each week offers a variety of activities- with open gym nights for soccer, volleyball, and basketball; and social activities planned by our Student Life Department. You can also check-out a kayak from the Student Life office, and spend a couple of hours peacefully paddling on the river.
Our computer lab is available for all students, and offers the opportunity to work on class projects, papers, or just check email.
