MACU Teacher of the Year - 2015-2016

The faculty of Mid-Atlantic Christian University has chosen Professor Lee Fields, Ph.D. as teacher of the year for 2015-2016.  Dr. Fields will be recognized at a special awards program hosted by the Elizabeth City Chamber of Commerce on May 4. Dr. Fields has been a professor at Mid-Atlantic since 1997 and is Professor of Bible and Chair of the Department of Biblical Studies. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Emporia State University in Physical Science. After attending Manhattan Christian College in Kansas, he moved to Cincinnati, receiving the Master of Divinity degree in General Bible from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. He received his Ph.D. from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, in Hebraic and Cognate Studies with an emphasis in Judaic Studies in the Greco-Roman Period.  His dissertation was entitled, "An Anonymous Dialog with a Jew: An Introduction and Annotated Translation." Professor Fields is well known as an Old Testament and Biblical Languages scholar.  He recently co-authored a book titled Devotions on the Hebrew Bible with Dr. Milton Eng.  Mid-Atlantic is pleased to honor Professor Fields and is grateful for his faithful service to the university.

MACU Hires New Women’s Head Volleyball Coach

Elizabeth City, NC – February 23, 2016.  We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Kellie Kessler has been chosen as the new MACU Mustangs Women’s Volleyball Coach. Coach Kessler’s tenure begins immediately as she will be leading the workout for new recruits on Tuesday, February 23, and will take the reins fully in the 2016-2017 academic year. Coach Kessler has been the Director of the Beach Breakers Home School Volleyball Sports Program in Virginia Beach (Junior Junior Varsity, Junior Varsity and Varsity) as well as the Head Varsity Coach from 2008 to the present. She has led their team to first place finishes in pre-season tournaments as well as taking second place last year in their home school state conference. Mrs. Kessler also led her team to finish in the second division at a national tournament. Mrs. Kessler lives in Virginia Beach where she and her husband are involved in marriage and parenting ministries at Kempsville Christian Church.   Athletic Director Neal Alligood states, “We are tremendously excited to welcome Coach Kessler to our campus and our athletic staff. She will be the first female head coach to join our program. Biology Coming to MACU in Fall 2017

Elizabeth City, NC – February 10, 2016. The trustees of Mid-Atlantic Christian University met on February 9, 2016 and voted to approve a new Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (pre-professional). The university trustees approved this new degree program as part of the overall vision for the university called “Vision 2020.”  The strategic plan that guides the future of the university states that “the Department of Academic Affairs will provide 10 ministerial degrees to directly serve the churches and 20 marketplace degrees in different disciplines to directly influence the culture for Christ.” The B.S. in Biology will produce marketplace leaders that will influence science, medicine, healthcare, agriculture, genetics, and ethics. Students who graduate with the biology degree will also complete a major in biblical studies. MACU President D. Clay Perkins commented that “these are exciting times for Mid-Atlantic. Book Signing with Dr. Fields

Elizabeth City, NC – December 3, 2015.  Mid-Atlantic Christian University will host a book signing on Tuesday, December 8th in the Harold C. Turner Waterfront Lobby from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Old Testament and Biblical Languages scholar, Professor Lee Fields, has co-authored a book titled Devotions on the Hebrew Bible with Dr. Milton Eng. The book was released in October and will be available for purchase and signing by both authors. Milton Eng (PhD, Drew University) teaches courses in World History and Biblical Studies at William Paterson University and Pillar College. He is also East Coast Project Director for the Institute for the Study of Asian American Christianity (ISAAC) and author of The Days of Our Years: A Lexical Semantic Study of the Life Cycle in Biblical Israel (T. & T.
