Spring Commencement May 11

Elizabeth City, NC – April 26, 2013 – Mid-Atlantic Christian University will hold its spring commencement services on Saturday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the riverfront Chesson Gymnasium in the Al Blanton III Campus Life Center at 715 N. Poindexter Street.  The President of Mid-Atlantic Christian University, Dr. D. Clay Perkins, invites students’ families, friends, and the community to attend the commencement services.  The Commencement speaker will be Dennis L. Crehan, Minister of Jarvisburg Church of Christ.  Valedictorian, Joshua S. Bondy, of Kernersville, NC, and Salutatorian, Sarah J. White, of Ivor, VA, will present speeches.   David A. Broyles, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, class of 2013, will perform an original song. Dr. Kevin W. Larsen, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Kendall S. Greene, Vice President for Student Service, will participate in the ceremony. The Class of 2013 will be awarded Bachelor Degrees in fields of study such as Christian Ministry, Youth and Family Ministry, Counseling, Cross-Cultural Ministry, Entrepreneurial Leadership and Elementary Education.  This marks the first year for two important programs to present graduates.  The Elementary Education program will present five graduates for the first time.  The School of Professional Studies...

MACU approved for 100% online degree programs

Mid-Atlantic Christian University received notification today (April 15, 2013) from its accrediting organization, The Southern Association of College and Schools - Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), that several of its degree programs have been approved for one hundred percent online delivery.  For the past few years the school has gradually been increasing its online presence, and now with this approval, several educational programs are now available for students who are not able to attend classes in a traditional format. The programs approved include all of the offerings in the University's School of Professional Studies (B.S. in Christian Ministry, B.S. in Family Studies, B.S. in Organizational Leadership, A.A. in Biblical Studies). In the University's School of Undergraduate Studies the programs included are B.S. in Entrepreneurial Leadership, A.A. in Biblical Studies, B.S. in Biblical Studies (AAS Nursing at COA), and the Certificate in Family Life Education. (Please note - that the B.S. in Biblical Studies [AAS Nursing] only applies to those courses taken at MACU.  The nursing courses at COA must be completed at COA's campus in Elizabeth City and are not available online). MACU names 2013 Teacher of the Year

Mid-Atlantic Christian University is pleased to announce that Dr. Barbara Williams, Associate Professor of Teacher Education, has been chosen by her peers to be MACU's 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year. Dr. Williams was particularly praised for the work she has done in establishing the elementary education program as a teacher licensure program. This program will witness its first graduates at May commencement service. Dr. Williams will be acknowledged with this award on Tuesday, April 23rd at 5:00 p.m. here on the MACU campus when the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce honors teacher of the year designees from across the area.  The public is welcome to attend this recognition service in the Albert Blanton III Campus Life Center here at MACU.

Ken Gunselman joins faculty as Associate Librarian and Library Director

Mid-Atlantic Christian University is pleased to announce that Ken Gunselman will be joining the faculty at Mid-Atlantic Christian University in April of this year. Mr. Gunselman will serve as Associate Librarian and Director of the Library. Mr. Gunselman was born in North Carolina but raised in the Philippines by missionary parents. He is a graduate of Oral Robert University where he received a BA in Communication Arts, Indiana University (MS in Education), and the University of North Texas (M.S. in Library Science).  Mr. Gunselman brings to the position thirty-three years of experience working in libraries, with over twenty-five of those years being in positions with institutions of higher education (e.g., Faulkner University, Abilene Christian University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and most recently York College in Nebraska). Besides his professional service, Mr. Gunselman has served in various capacities in the local church including as a deacon in two Church of Christ (non-instrumental) churches. He and his wife, Cindi, plan to move to Elizabeth City in April.
