FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MACU Announces USCAA Affiliation

Elizabeth City, NC, December 6, 2012 – The Athletic Department at Mid-Atlantic Christian University has been accepted into a national affiliation for athletic programs, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, or USCAA.

MACU applied this fall and received provisional status earlier this week. This USCAA membership broadens MACU’s athletic footprint from a regional affiliation to a national affiliation.

As a USCAA provisional member, “MACU is immediately eligible for Player of the Week and National All-Academic honors with the USCAA, as well as statistical leaders as displayed on our website,” said the association.

According to President Clay Perkins, “Athletics are important at Mid-Atlantic. This next step is a game changer for Mid-Atlantic and the City of Hospitality. Now student athletes have another viable option for pursuing collegiate-level sports in our city while earning one of our 19 degrees. We are confident in Athletic Director Neal Alligood and the direction he is taking the program.”

Other steps forward for MACU and her growing athletic program have been the addition of women’s basketball this year and men’s golf and women’s volleyball for the 2013 season. Membership gives the university a national association and branding to be recognized as an organization of high quality. “It will also be a key tool in recruitment as we are no longer considered an ‘independent’ on the field of play,” Alligood added.

Membership is effective immediately for the men’s and women’s basketball programs on the USCAA Division II level.  As sports are added, they will also fall under the USCAA association.

The mission statement of the USCAA is “Leveling the playing field for America’s small colleges.” More information about the USCAA is available at www.theuscaa.com.

Mid-Atlantic Christian University is accredited by The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (COC-SACS) to award certificates, associate, and baccalaureate degrees.
