Worship Leader Opportunity The Rising is a church designed to see people raised to true life. We are a portable church of around 200 people which launched 3 years ago, and meets every Sunday at The Norva in downtown Norfolk. Half of our church is between 20 and 35 years old. The style of music we sing is in the vein of Elevation Worship, Lifepoint Worship, Hillsong, Bethel Music, Rend Collective, Etc. We also cover songs from Billboard’s Top Alternative list occasionally.

Overall Direction and Description: -Be an active, contributing member of the staff, committed to growth and excellence -Create a memorable, engaging Worship Experience through music and creative elements every Sunday -Contribute to building a worship culture within our church -Build and lead a team of musicians to make up at least 2 high caliber bands -Develop relational opportunities for musicians and vocalists to collaborate and grow together -Meet with musicians and vocalists to mentor them spiritually

Worship Intern

Worship Intern at Laurel Avenue Church of Christ

Job Description

 Responsibilities include:

  • Execute Sunday morning worship
  • Plan and coordinate Sunday service
  • Plan & produce multi-media aspects (Easy Worship, music, etc.)



  • Needs to accompany him/herself (We have piano and keyboard)
  • Will plan traditional worship with 2-4 hymns each week, in addition to introducing new music to the church.


About LACC:

            LACC exists to glorify God by guiding people in a relationship with Jesus.  The average age of the church is 65-80 with a few young families.  Average attendance is around 85 people.


It is a church full of loving and friendly people who have a strong faith in the Lord.

Worship Leader

Position Description


To develop and lead the worship music ministry for our church, in consultation with the teaching pastor and other team members, in a way that is consistent with our mission, values, and theology.


Meet with the teaching Pastor as needed to select songs two weeks in advance.


Preparation to lead practice and Sunday morning worship includes:


Personal practice of the songs to ensure knowledge and comfortable leading of the team.


Communication with musicians about practices and songs for the upcoming week.

Providing the necessary music sheets/links to musicians at least one week in advance to ensure they have what is needed to prepare at home for the upcoming week

Printing out the music for the musicians and singers beforehand for practice

Create and update musician/singers schedule


Ensure back-up worship leader is in place before making plans to be away.


Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise and shepherd music team and technical team. 

Load songs into computer (ProPresenter) no later than Thursday

File music, prepare binders for musicians

Type/copy/distribute Order of Service

Prepare special numbers from time-to-time

Provide  required reports for CCLI.

Prepare music and schedule practices for all-church events such as a Christmas Eve service, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc


Provide input to the annual music ministry budget proposal,



Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. 

Ability to shepherd volunteer musicians in the Christian life. 

Love and respect for people.

Attested musical skills and competence. 

Ability to organize, coordinate, and motivate musicians and technical team members. 

Sense of humor and positive attitude. 

Strong team player with the rest of the staff and congregation. 

Committed to the church's mission, vision,values, leadership, and people. 

Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative. 

Musical Competencies: 

Ability in wide range of styles including Christian classics (hymns) but with a focus on contemporary music. 

Ability to lead worship and to train others as individuals and team members. 

Proficient in keyboard or guitar.

Ability to produce and direct special events and programs.

Experience with technical aspects of contemporary services.  Sound boards, theater lights is a plus.


Benefits:  Paid vacation for four Sundays.  Additional Sudays off will be negotiated with the teaching pastor and will be unpaid leave.   Additional Sick or family emergency time off.
