Mike Schrage is a graduate of Southern Illinois University (1977). After three years of managing a large farming operation, Mike attended Ozark Christian College to augment his biblical and cross-cultural studies. He married Karolyn Nutt in 1981. Three years later, Mike and Karolyn began serving as missionaries in Western Kenya. They used their degrees and studying in the Bible, agriculture, and nursing to initiate a church-planting effort among the Pokot people. By 1994, 7,000 people had been baptized and 130 congregations started. In addition to these congregations, several development projects were started. These projects included an orphanage for 40 children, two small vocational training schools, numerous nursery schools and a medical clinic.
Mike has been involved in preaching, Christian education, and leadership training for 25 years. He also partnered with others to establish a Christian media center in Nairobi, Kenya (GNPI-Africa). In September of 1995, the 5,500 square foot GNPI-Africa regional center was dedicated to God and His service in Africa. Mike served as Regional Director for the next ten years at the center in Nairobi. Ministry projects included video drama productions over relevant topics like abortion, spousal abuse, drunkenness, and HIV/AIDS. Leadership and discipleship-training materials have also been made in various African languages and used in ten African countries.
In June 2003, Mike and his family relocated to Joplin, Missouri, where Mike accepted the role of Director for sub-Sahara Africa with GNPI. Mike also serves as Director of Development with Good News Productions, International.
